The new HK$5.5 Billion CX Cargo Terminal, the world’s biggest facility of its kind, is designed to maximise the usage of the 10 hectare site area and provide high land use efficiency of over 25 tonnes per sqm. It will be equipped with a state-of-the-art Materials Handling System (MHS) that can handle the huge throughput in the limited space with high efficiency. The cargo terminal is designed to deliver an annual capacity: 2.6 million tones, has a construction floor area of 246,000 sq m and a Container Storage System (CSS) for 2,445 positions. The facility has an advanced truck dock and cargo release booking system and license plate recognition system to eliminate truck waiting time for 165 units. The cargo terminal will deliver shorter cargo delivery times, reduced cut-off times for export cargo, a shorter trans-shipment connection window and shorter truck queue times, all of which are essential to sustain the competitiveness of a cargo hub.
