City Square Mall
Meinhardt provided Civil and Structural Engineering services for this development.
City Square Mall, located at the junction of Serangoon and Kitchener Roads, sits on the site of Singapore’s historic New World Park. Having close proximity to Little India, one of the Top 5 must-see tourist spots, with direct connection to Farrer Park MRT station, it attracts both local and tourist shoppers. The project comprises a 6 storey retail mall, a 9 storey commercial with 4 levels of basement and a Sunken Plaza. Since inception, City Square Mall has been conceptualised with environmental sustainability in mind, from the construction process to the building features. The project has won numerous local and international awards including BCA Green Mark Platinum Award 2007 (first retail to achieve), and RosPa (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, UK) Awards 2007 and 2008.
Some of the key innovative design features include:
Adoption of Top-Down Construction Method Using Diaphragm Wall Retention System with Precast Concrete King posts which resulted in completion of Mall Superstructure and last basement level at about the same time
Adoption of Reinforced Concrete (RC) Flat Slab System at basement levels to simplify casting of basements by avoiding different levels of lean concrete as formwork during top-down construction
Adoption of Post-Tensioned (PT) Flat Slab System for Mall and PT Band Beam and RC Slab System for Commercial with large span (up to 25 m)
